Bonus winnings removed? Build a dispute around the terms and bet history

Identify the promotion, the rule invoked and the exact transaction behind a deduction. Separate bonus funds from your own money and ask for a calculation you can check.

Bonus winnings removed? Build a dispute around the terms and bet history

A completed wagering counter does not tell you why a casino removed winnings. The dispute may concern an excluded game, a maximum stake, an expired promotion or the way different balances were used. Before arguing about the final number, establish the specific promotion and the rule the operator says was breached. Your strongest starting point is a small set of matching records: the accepted offer, relevant terms and transactions.

Identify the offer you actually accepted

Save the promotion name, acceptance date, offer email or account notification, and the terms shown at that time. A current welcome-offer page may describe a different campaign. If you do not have the historical wording, ask the operator to provide the version it applied to your account. Explain the gap instead of assuming today's wording was in force when you played.

Note whether you actively accepted a bonus, received free spins or had a reward credited automatically. Record any opt-out, cancellation or support promise. Do not rely on the size of the headline offer to explain the disputed balance; a nominal bonus and winnings produced during bonus play are separate amounts.

Separate your deposit, bonus and winnings

Write down the deposit amount, bonus credited, balance before the deduction and amount removed. If the account provides separate cash and bonus wallets, capture both. If it shows only one total, request a breakdown rather than deciding that all of it must be cash or all of it must be promotional. A useful response explains how the operator calculated the balance it is retaining.

For the British regulated market, the Gambling Commission distinguishes deposit funds from restricted bonus funds and describes protection for withdrawals of deposit balances, subject to applicable regulatory obligations. Its bonus guidance also addresses clarity of restrictions. These are jurisdiction-specific rules, not a promise that any offshore bonus balance is immediately withdrawable.

Ask for the rule and the transaction together

If the reason is a maximum-bet breach, ask for the bet identifier, timestamp, stake, game and balance used. If an excluded game is alleged, ask which entry in the applicable game list covers it. If wagering was incomplete, request the contribution calculation rather than only a percentage. If the offer expired, request the expiry time and time zone. Each question tests a concrete link between a rule and the account history.

Review the reply against your records without changing them. A single screenshot of a winning round may not show the transaction the operator is challenging. Ask for the surrounding sequence where necessary. If a game feature creates several linked transactions, explain why the stake display and history may appear different and ask the operator to identify the entry it used.

Check the arithmetic before the argument

Work through the published requirement using the offer's own definitions. Does the multiplier apply to the bonus alone or another specified base? Do all played games contribute equally? Which transactions were excluded? Write a short calculation with a start balance, eligible play and remaining requirement. Label it as your calculation and ask the casino to identify the point where its calculation differs.

British promotional rules introduced on 19 January 2026 cap bonus wagering requirements at ten and prohibit offers requiring participation across multiple gambling products. The announcement was corrected from an earlier implementation date. When invoking that change, identify the date of your offer and the British licence; do not cite it as a worldwide limit or assume it decides an older dispute.

Make the complaint about the disputed decision

Keep the opening short: identify the amount removed, date, promotion and stated reason. Explain whether you dispute the factual allegation, the calculation, the wording of the restriction or how it was communicated. Those are different arguments. If you acknowledge a transaction but believe the term was unclear, say so rather than claiming the transaction never happened.

Ask for the relevant terms version, supporting transactions, balance breakdown and a written final position. If the operator offers to return a deposit while removing bonus winnings, record both parts. You may accept one undisputed payment while another issue remains, but read any settlement wording before agreeing that the entire matter is closed.

Preserve the claim without gambling more

Do not continue playing simply to make a disputed wagering figure move. New play can alter balances and muddy the earlier calculation. Keep original files privately and publish redacted excerpts that show the decision, not your full personal profile. The evidence guide explains how to retain context while removing private information.

If support repeats a conclusion without addressing the transaction or term, use the formal complaint route and then the relevant external process. The ADR and regulator guide explains how to select that route. A public complaint can make the exchange easier to follow, but it cannot turn an unverified allegation or an ambiguous rule into a guaranteed award.

Questions answered

Does completing the wagering counter prove the casino must pay?

It proves only what the counter displayed. Ask which other rule is being invoked and for the transactions and terms version supporting that decision.

Does the British 10× limit apply to every casino?

No. Identify whether the operator and offer fall within the British regulated market and the rule’s timing. Do not apply it automatically to another licence.

What if I cannot find the old promotion terms?

Retain the offer email and acceptance details, explain that the historical terms are missing, and request the exact version used to decide your case.
